But this amazing achievement belies the fact that it’s always been a continuous struggle to keep this magnificent historic aircraft, part of our national heritage, in the air.

If we are to keep Sally B flying for future generations, the B-17 Charitable Trust needs more funds and so I hope you will please support the Sally B Appeal. Your help is vital to the continued survival of Sally B and believe me - every donation counts more than you will ever know!

For example, in 2005 the European Union hiked our B-17’s third party insurance costs to an impossible level, and I had no choice but to ground Sally B while we fought Europe to get this unjust law changed. That meant a huge loss of funds as we only flew for the last three months of the season.

Somehow, we eventually got airborne again and ended the season on a high note as Sally B led her formation down The Mall and over Buckingham Palace in the official VE Day commemorations.

Special moments like that remind me just why we are so committed to keeping this aircraft flying.
